Ukraine is a relatively large country in Central-Eastern Europe bordering Belarus, Hungary, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Russia and Slovakia. With a total area of 603 550 sq km it is the 46th largest country in the world and the second largest in Europe. The climate is mainly temperate-continental.

The language distribution is the following: Ukrainian (official) 67%, Russian 24%, other (includes small Romanian-, Polish-, and Hungarian-speaking minorities) 9%. English is spoken by part of the young population, but it is not widely spread. The majority of the population is Christian Orthodox. The capital is Kiev with a population of 2.8 million people. Other big cities are: Kharkiv 1.455 million, Dnipropetrovsk 1.013 million, Odesa 1.009 million and Donetsk 971,000. Ukraine spends 5.3% of the GDP on Education and 7% of the GDP for Healthcare.

Ukraine is not a member of the EU yet. The currey is the Ukranian hryvnia (UAH) and the local time is CET +1.
