Earth Science deals with study of the Earth and its neighbors in space. Earth sciences look-into the aspects such as Earth atmosphere, hydrosphere, biosphere and general issues. The study field is also known as geoscience and includes multi-disciplines: atmospheric sciences, meteorology, climatology, atmospheric physics, hydrology, oceanography, geodesy, geophysics, geology, mineralogy, glaciology, volcanology, petrology, geomagnetism, sedimentology, soil science, geo-statistics, hydrogeology, astronomy and etc. Graduates can work in many areas, especially geology, environmental science, environmental consultancy firms or governmental institutions.
The University of Manchester
The Centre for Atmospheric Science studies processes important to climate change and air quality in the troposphere and lower stratosphere - the lowest 20 km of the Earth's atmosphere. We are one of the largest such groups in UK universities, and have extensive collaborative links with leading atmospheric science groups world-wide. We have a strong experimental programme, with a range of state-of-the-art facilities for field and laboratory measurements. To complement the measurements we run numerical models on a variety of scales using code developed at Manchester as well as national and international standard models.

Work in this group involves studying the structures, properties and stabilities of minerals and fluids. Particular emphasis is given to studies of mineral surfaces, amorphous precipitates and geofluids.
Cardiff University
This programme aims to offer knowledge and expertise for a career in academia or industry, government surveys, analytical and environmental geochemistry.
Charles University
High-temperature industrial processes and traffic are the most important sources of metals/metalloids dispersion in the environment and soils represent an important sink for these anthropogenic emissions.
Cardiff University
This programme aims to offer knowledge and expertise for a career in academia as a researcher/lecturer, in museums, industry, and the wider geological workplace including environmental consultancy and the hydrocarbon industry.
Charles University
The project continues in the series of researches supported by grant agencies (GA ČR, GA AV) aimed at long-term land use changes of the landscape in Czechia.
Queen Mary, University of London
We welcome postgraduate students and visiting research fellows who wish to undertake research in our areas of interest (see below). Research students are registered for University of London degrees (MPhil/PhD) and work under the supervision of members of academic staff. Students may receive financial support (research studentships) offered by the research councils (including CASE studentships in collaboration with an industrial sponsor).
Cardiff University
This programee aims to offer knowledge and expertise for a career in academia, the hydrocarbon industries, government surveys and analytical geochemistry.
University of Dublin Trinity College
The focus will be on particular regulatory genes we have identified as responsive to mechanical stimuli in the embryo to further investigate the molecular mechanisms involved.
The University of Manchester
The research group is concerned with the evolution of depositional systems and landscape to structurally imposed constraints, and with diagenetic processes. Petroleum geoscience research is a growth area involving 3D seismic interpretation of departmental systems reservoir characterisation and outcrop modelling. The research is focused on integrated studies coupling sequence stratigraphy, structural geology and sedimentary geochemistry and is split 60:40 between outcrop/modelling work and subsurface studies.
Jacobs University Bremen
The Earth System Sciences Research School (ESSReS), funded by the German Helmholtz Association, offers PhD positions for outstanding young scientists in the topical field of earth system science. Emphasis is placed on the development and application of methods suitable for interdisciplinary Earth System Science.
Cardiff University
This course aims to offer knowledge and expertise for a career in academic research, environmental consultancy and environmental management and policy making.
