The Department has an outstanding record of teaching, research and publication, with a number of top research journals edited within the Department. The Department is not committed to any particular view of the discipline of political science and believes that the study of politics should be broad in scope, rigorous in approach and open to new ideas. Students have access to academic staff and a constant flow of distinguished visiting scholars from abroad. The Department is also home to the European Consortium for Political Research and the University hosts the Essex Summer School in Social Science Data Analysis and Collection.
Research supervision is available in: political behaviour; political theory; ideology and discourse analysis; political economy; feminism and politics; methodology; international relations and comparative politics.
