Our research strengths centre on three areas: promoting equity and social justice; analysing curriculum policy and practice; and language and culture in education. We are particularly keen to hear from those who would like to work in fields such as: action research in education; art in education; bilingualism in education; children and popular culture; comprehensive education; curriculum policy and practice; drama in education; early childhood education and cultural diversity; early literacy and bilingualism; equity and social justice; family learning in multilingual contexts; gender studies; history of education; ICT and education; identities, cultures and the curriculum; out-of-school learning; race and education; science in education; sexuality and education; spatial aspects of education; visual cultures and education.
We have a vibrant, international group of postgraduate students. Recent and current topics include: 'Why stop having fun? An exploration of young women's gendered participation in teenage communities of practice'; 'Identity in question - third generation Bangladeshis from East London'; 'Doing "girl" and "boy": an exploration of the development of young children's constructs of gender during the Foundation Stage of schooling'; 'The lived experience of children in an Australian rural and isolated cultural context'; `Study of meaning in children's drawings´; 'The impact of increased assessment in the post-16 curriculum on learner identities'.
