The Centre for Ethics in Medicine, located within the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry is recognised internationally for its contributions to research and teaching on ethics in medicine and science. The Centre currently employs a Professor, two Senior Lecturers, a teaching associate, a research associate, 10 honorary research staff, and 2 administrative / secretarial staff. It runs, and has run, a variety of projects examining ethics in medicine, including large scale projects funded by the Wellcome Trust and the European Commission.
Research Groups
The team at the Centre works closely together and with colleagues from a range of disciplines in the University and beyond (including Law, Palliative Medicine, Psychiatry, Primary Care and colleagues working within the NHS). No formal divisions exist amongst the various research groups, although the Centre's main areas of interest and expertise are:
* The child patient
* Human tissue
* End of life decision making
* Genetics
* Clinical ethics
* Care of the elderly
* Enhancing human capacities
* Justice and health care
* Evidence-based medicine
* Research ethics
* Health policy and market reform
* Reproductive medicine
Applications would be welcome from candidates wishing to pursue postgraduate research in any of these areas; applicants who wish to study topics not mentioned here are also welcome to contact the Centre.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
