In 2008 the School of Oral and Dental Sciences again performed highly in the government's Research Assessment Exercise (RAE). The results rank Bristol as one of the top five centres of internationally acclaimed dental research in the UK (Times Higher Education ranking). The School's RAE scores show that 20% of research activity is worldleading (4*) and overall 95% of research is of international importance. The School research programme is encompassed within two Faculty Research Themes. It interfaces laboratory-based and clinically-applied research and fosters a high level of collaboration between staff. The research programme is funded by external grants from charities, research councils and industry.
Research Groups Research is structured and managed within the School through three research groupings:
* Applied Clinical and Materials Science (ACMS)
* Life-course Epidemiology and Population Oral Health(LEPOH)
