Our research aim is to provide evidence of the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of the care provided in primary health care, be it preventative, curative or rehabilitative. The research is driven by a need to inform policy decisions regarding the implementation of high quality primary health care. The Unit currently numbers around 60 people, consisting of academic health professionals, (GPs and nurses), statisticians, social scientists, health economists, and support staff. This multidisciplinary profile is reflected in most of the research conducted in the Unit.
The Unit forms part of the new School of Social and Community Medicine.
