The Unit currently numbers around 60 people, consisting of academic health professionals, namely psychiatrists, psychologists, and social scientists, and administrative support staff.
The Unit forms part of the new School of Social and Community Medicine.
Research Groups
Our research involves a wide range of biological, psychological and social factors. A variety of methods are used including neuroimaging, pharmacological challenge tests, randomised clinical trials and large longitudinal studies.
We collaborate with other investigators within and outside of the University, including international collaborators in Europe, US, and the developing world. There are several strong research lines in the Unit:
* Health services research: RCTs for the treatment of depression and psychoses
* Epidemiological: mainly depression, anxiety, and schizophrenia
* Psychopharmacology: Anxiety, depression, and sleep problems
* Addictions: biological and epidemiological mechanisms underpinning dependence in humans
* Forensic mental health
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
