The Norah Fry Research Centre is a leading centre specialising in research with and for people with learning disabilities and disabled children and their families. The Centre is known for its work to include disabled people in the research process, and for developing accessible, easy to understand information and for the dissemination of research findings in multiple formats to different audiences.


Contents

Our research goal is to improve support for disabled people, people with learning disabilities and disabled children and their families. Research findings aim to influence legislation and service provision as well as empowering service users and carers to influence services.

Research themes include:

* Human rights and social inclusion
* Access to services and support
* Self-advocacy
* Policy research and development
* Reseach into practice
* The Development of accessible information

Recent areas of research include:

* Advocacy, brokerage and support for disabled people in planning for personalised services
* The needs of young disabled people at transition
* The communication skills needed by supporters of people with learning disabilities
* Support for parents with learning disabilities and their children
* A study to determine research priorities in Learning Disability over the next ten years

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.

Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

Requirements

Entry requirements

Normally a first or upper second class degree in a relevant subject, including Social Sciences or Psychology, or international equivalent. However, we aim to provide routes into research for mature entrants with appropriate professional experience where possible.

Language requirements

An IELTS score of 6.5. We also accept other language tests; please see our website for details.
