This is an innovative programme, unique in composition in Catalonia and indeed in Spain, which aims to build a bridge between several disciplines -from computational neuroscience, cognitive science and artificial intelligence, to multimedia communication technologies, interactive technologies, multimedia information processing and communication networks-. The subjects of the programme are in accordance with the lines of research pursued within the framework of the Department of Information and Communication Technologies.
Objectives The doctorate programme sets the following training objectives:
* In-depth understanding of a scientific discipline as reflected in the programme, and a command of the research skills and methods related with said discipline.
* The ability to conceive, design, put into practice and adopt a substantial process of research with academic rigour.
* The development of a piece of original research work broadening the horizons of knowledge in said discipline to a degree that warrants indexed publication at national and international level.
* The ability, in academic and professional contexts, to promote technological advancement within the information society.
Contents The accredited training of the doctorate belongs to the master's degree of the Department of Information and Communication Technologies. Thesis supervisors may recommend that their students take specific courses of the master's degree to enable them to complement their research training. Apart from the master's degree courses, the doctorate includes research seminars which aim to deal with specific subjects of interest for the different lines of research. Attendance at seminars is compulsory and includes a piece of work on one of the subjects presented, which will be worth 5 ECTS credits.
The first year of the doctorate is completed with the defence of the thesis project, which will also be worth 5 ECTS credits.

Accreditation of holding a Bologna Master's Degree, or, in lack of that, a signed declaration which certifies that the student is able to obtain his/her degree at the start of the course. The admission on the master's course is subject to the submission of the corresponding degree title (or any official document issued by your home University which states that the degree title fees have been duly paid) before the start of the next academic course.
