The doctoral school federates the molecular chemistry laboratories of central Paris, from inorganic chemistry and chemical biology via organic chemistry.
It provides its doctoral students with training through research at the highest level to understand the properties at the scale of the molecule, and the practice of identification and synthesis of functional molecular objects (drugs, sensors, catalysts, etc.).
The discipline is pivotal in many scientific fields, from materials to biochemistry via agricultural chemistry and pharmaceutical chemistry.
Our PhD graduates therefore have conceptual and synthetic skills that put them in high demand in the professional world.
Finally, emphasis is placed on the internationalization of training both through the development of partnerships and through the Chairs of invited foreign lecturers.
The leading French scientific university and 7th European university according to the Shanghai ranking, UPMC represents significant research potential.
Over 3,400 PhD students and around 4,500 researchers and research professors are spread across approximately 160 laboratories and 20 schools. This research potential gives it important responsibilities in terms of teaching and, in particular, doctoral teaching. In the current context of the development of the society of knowledge, driving the economy of innovation, this area of concern is important for UPMC.
The ambition of UPMC is to contribute to the development of this society by proposing, within its doctoral programmes, scientific training of a high standard accompanied by a diversified range of additional programmes of study on offer and personalised support for the professional plans of PhD students.
These mechanisms, when put into place, should ensure that PhD students successfully graduated, creative and innovative, a professional capable of occupying positions of responsibility in the companies of the socio-economic world.
