NOWNANO DTC is offering highly competitive studentships (with tax-free stipends of approximately £14,000 per year) which allow the students to work with world-leading research groups, including Nobel Prize winners.

All NOWNANO students receive initial training that shows them the breadth and potential of nanoscience, before they focus on mastering one specific area of the subject. Available research projects range from physics, chemistry and technology of nanodevices and nanomaterials to applications of nanoscience in drug delivery, regenerative medicine and treatments of major diseases. Throughout the research training the student cohort meet and discuss their research, building a group of outstanding scientists that will help to lead world research in nanoscience in the future.

The relatively long duration of NOWNANO DTC PhD (4 years) reflects the fact that challenges presented by nanoscience are inherently interdisciplinary, and making a contribution in this area requires training that crosses discipline boundaries. Throughout their PhD the students are given many opportunities to develop awareness of developments outside the narrower remit of their research project, such as student conferences, talks by leading academics, entrepreneurs and industry representatives, educational visits to large-scale research and production facilities (e.g. Diamond synchrotron, carbon-nanotubes production facility) and working visits to research labs outside their home institution. Funding is also available to support presenting your results at international conferences. The DTC also offers courses in transferable skills such as effective communication and innovation/ commercialisation of research, so that we produce experts capable of communicating across professions and of exploiting their scientific and technological expertise.

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.

Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
