Hanken School of Economics is part of Helsinki Centre of Economic Research (HECER) and the three economics departments of the participating universities (including Hanken) are located in the Economicum building in the very centre of Helsinki. HECER is an independent research institute whose main purpose is to promote high-quality economic research, to develop and co-ordinate doctoral level economic education and to promote co-operation in economics among the universities in the Helsinki area. At the moment the HECER community consists of over 80 economists, including 15 tenured professors. At both the Nordic and at the European levels, HECER represents a significant concentration of academic economists and provides a good basis for high-quality research, doctoral level education, and also for discussion and interaction with the society in general.
