The research areas of interest within the Department of Applied Social Studies include youth affairs, youth work and the sociology of youth work, community development and community work, the welfare state, European social policy, poverty, juvenile justice and policy in respect of children, women´s studies, race, racism, ethnicity, Traveller culture, intercultural studies, ageing and older people, civil society and the state.

An applicant wishing to undertake a research degree should submit a research proposal in writing 3,000-4,000 words and consult with the Department on the general suitability of the research topic, and on the availability of an appropriate supervisor.

Requirements

An applicant wishing to undertake a research degree should submit a research proposal in writing 3,000-4,000 words and consult with the Department on the general suitability of the research topic, and on the availability of an appropriate supervisor.

Applicants must have an IELTS score of 6, if not they may take our International
Foundation Course. Minimum English language requirement for the IFC is IELTS 4.5 or equivalent.
