This degree recognises the significant role that archaeology and heritage professionals play in knowledge production. In building up a portfolio of unpublished work through professional projects the student indicates a record of achievement at a high professional level.
The portfolio is supported by two chapters which introduces the portfolio and places it in its professional context and a concluding chapter which provides an account of the portfolio´s academic context. The construction of the portfolio and the two chapters is assisted by a supervision board which meets at regular intervals.
It is a non-residential scheme leading to a PhD (Doctor of Philosophy) through part-time enrolment over a period of 5-9 years. With the agreement of the committee work completed prior to enrolment may be considered for inclusion in the portfolio and could lead to a reduction in period of candidature.
Assessment: is by the production of a portfolio accrued over the period of candidature. The portfolio will consist of written or other work (e.g. exhibition record) produced through normal professional activities. The portfolio will also require a written and referenced introduction of approximately 10,000 words explaining the context of portfolio production and a conclusion of similar length providing a reflective and critical account of the professional activities represented in the portfolio production and a conclusion of similar length providing a reflective and critical account of the professional activities represented in the portfolio.
Supervision: Will be through a standing panel which meets three times a year.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
Take testCandidates will normally have a relevant first degree and at least 5 years of relevant professional experience at management level. Please send a cv with your application form.
International students applying for study at postgraduate level will normally be required to show evidence of sufficient command of the English language to be able to follow their course, undertake research and produce writing without major linguistic difficulties. For example, this is usually the Cambridge Advanced or Proficiency Certificate, IELTS minimum score of 6.5, TOEFL minimum score of 575.
