10 fully-funded PhD positions in Translational Cardiovascular and Metabolic Medicine Application Closing Date: March 20 2012 "TransCard" aims at identifying and training the next generation of talented students in the fields of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. There is an increasing world-wide demand for well-trained researchers within this exciting and medically extremely important research arena. We are looking for outstanding highly-motivated candidates of any nationality, who hold or expect to obtain a Masters degree or a Diplom in Biology or in a related field. The Max Delbruck Center for Molecular Medicine (MDC) is a leading research institution in the field of Molecular Medicine in Germany. It covers a broad range of research areas including: Function & Dysfunction of the Nervous System, Cardiovascular & Metabolic Diseases, Cancer and Bioinformatics & Systems Biology. In 2009 the MDC and its partners, the Freie Universität Berlin (FU), the Humboldt Universität zu Berlin (HU) and the Charité, have established the Helmholtz International Research School Molecular TransCard to train excellent young researchers in translational medicine.
TransCard is a member of the Helmholtz Graduate School `Molecular Cell Biology´- a body of over 250 international PhD students at the MDC that benefit from a structured interdisciplinary PhD training.
The TransCard program is an attractive PhD program for several good reasons:

If you want to apply for a PhD position, you need to hold or expect to obtain a Masters degree or a Diplom in Biology or in a related field. Also, since the curriculum is conducted entirely in English, you need t be proficient in written and spoken English.
