Basic purpose of doctoral study programme in Nuclear Engineering is to educate scientists for varius branches of nuclear technology and nuclear energy who will be able to develop and apply new knowledge. The students graduating in this program posses good knowledge in various branches within the field of nuclear technology and energy and are competent for employment at the highest level in relevant areas of economy, state administration, agencies, military, police, customs, and the like, but at the scientific institutes and universities, as well.
The aims of doctoral study within the area of nuclear engineering are directed towards:
- the understanding and analysis of nuclear facilities and related nuclear subsystems;
- the knowledge of the most demanding engineering and technological operations and processes in an organization with the emphasis on management of nuclear systems and their subsystems;
- recognition and consideration of ecological standards, operations and activities in nuclear systems;
- the function and system knowledge in nuclear power plants;
- the management of an organization as a system;
- the development of the abilities for pursueing the in depth scientific;
-research in the interdisciplinary field of nuclear systems, subsystems and technologies;
- the perpatual study and development of new knowledge.
With the doctoral study programme based on these aims, the students will acquire theoretical knowledge and its application in practice in order to achieve general and subject-specific competences. The gained knowledge is fully comparable with the knowledge acquired in equivalent doctoral programmes of related institutions in Europe.

Enrolment
Into doctoral studies of the third degree of Nuclear energy and technologies may be enrolled who completed:
- study programme of the second degree;
- university study programme verified before 11 June 2004;
- professional type of higher educational study programmes, verified before 11 June 2004, and a specialist degree study programme. Before the enrolment into the study programme, study obligations are determined in the extent of 45 ECTS, students must pass the exams in certain subjects (determined by Committee for Science and Research for each candidate individually, depending on study programme) from the fields of Mathematics, Physics II, Chemistry and Civil engineering of study programmes of engineering or natural science faculties;
- study programme, which educates for professions, directed by EU, or any other uniform Master study programme which is awarded 300 ECTS.
Enrolment limitation
In the case of enrolment limitation candidates will be chosen according to their grades in diploma or Master 20% and according to grade-point average of university or second degree study 80%.
FURTHER STUDIES ACCORDING TO THE CRITERIA FOR TRANSITION
According to the transition criteria, candidates are eligible for the enrolment into the 3rd degree of Nuclear energy and technologies if they have finished:
- Master study programme, verified before 11 June 2004, if they are awarded 60 ECTS at the enrolment, or
- university study programme, verified before 11 June 2004, and specialist degree study programme if they are awarded 60 ECTS at the enrolment. The transition of candidates of other study programmes of the 3rd degree to study programme of the 3rd degree of Nuclear energy and technologies of Faculty of Civil Engineering is also possible if they meet enrolment conditions and if enough enrolment places are available.
