The fundamental goal of PhD study program in Educational Science is to qualify scientists in the field of educational science to be able to develop and apply new knowledge from this field. This is applicable for positions of the highest strategic levels of educational development management in all structures of pedagogical sectors, including non-economic as well as government offices (the ministry, agencies, inspection agencies, the National Educational Institute, and other similar institutions), scientific institutions and universities.

The PhD study program will enable the realization of the following goals:

* Inclusion in and independent conducting of scientific research work
* Deepened understanding of theoretical and methodological concepts in the field of education
* Qualification for independent development of new knowledge and finding solutions for the most demanding professional and scientific problems
* Critical adherence (testing, improvement) to known factors and forming new solutions in the scientific - disciplinary field of practice
* Qualification to independently conduct the most demanding work systems and to conduct scientific research and/or professional projects
* Development of the ability to be self-critical, to develop ethical responsibility when conducting research and to develop social and communicational abilities for conducting professional and research work

PhD work

For electives, candidates choose (with the help of their mentor) a suitable field-subject in didactics (for example Research aspects of didactics of natural science and craft), which they will develop with the preparation of PhD work in that field, through all the phases of individual research work defined in this course list. According to the selected subject, the mentor will take care of suitable selection of the subjects from the list of free pedagogy - theoretical electives that are not within scientific fields.

Requirements

For enrolment in the third cycle study program in Educational Science, the following must be completed:

a. Successful completion of the second cycle study program

b. Successful completion of a university study program before June 11, 2004

c. Successful completion of a study program arranged with EU directives, or any other master´s study program worth 300 ECTS.

d. Successful completion of a study program for specialization and a higher vocational study program completed before June 11, 2004. Before enrollment, the candidate must complete the study requirements in extent of 34 ECTS. These candidates also have to pass an entrance exam of the courses offered in the second cycle of study for Elementary School Education, which are: one required course (Methodology of Pedagogical Research), three fundamental courses of elective modules (the candidate can choose between the Natural Science and Technical module, Social Science and Humanities module, or Esthetics and Movement module) and two electives that are part of a chosen module.

There are a maximum of 15 enrollment places; minimum enrollment is 3. In the case that there will be more candidates than there are enrolment places, candidates will be chosen based on their grade-point average from their completed study program.

Regulations for transferring between programs

According to the criteria for transferring, the following requirements must be met to be eligible to transfer into the second year of the third cycle study program in Educational Science:

- Completion of a graduate study program for a master´s degree in science before June 11, 2004 of which 60 ECTS credits will be recognized at the time of enrollment in accordance with the law. The study credits recognized will be determined by the Commission for Scientific Research Activity and Postgraduate Study.

- Completion of a university study before June 11, 2004 and a specialized study program of which 60 ECTS credits will be recognized at the time of enrollment in accordance of the law by the Commission for Scientific Research Activity and Postgraduate Study.
