The aim of proposed doctoral study programme of Agricultural Economics is to deepen previous students´ knowledge and to qualify them for research work in Agricultural Economics, Management and informatics, Agricultural and Food Marketing Agricultural Policy and Rural Development. The proposed Ph.D. study programme enables additional education of researchers that are able to conduct individual scientific work. The proposed system assures high quality of a programme (requirements for publishing research results in journals with impact factor).
The Agricultural Economics study programme is designed so that it enhances the graduates' employability in various fields. These range from holding leading positions in agriculture (agricultural enterprises, extension services, etc.) to active participation in various administrative jobs, for which extensive knowledge of agricultural economics and management is required (various research agencies, agricultural stock exchange, various trade associations, state-administration units, etc.).
The main goal of proposed study programme is to educate future researchers, who will be able to conduct research work in research institutions, academic institutions and also in civil service and in economic environment. Students will get general competences as follows:
o to identify, analyze and solve research problem,
o to get deeper knowledge in research methods and procedures in research work,
o to transfer the knowledge form theory to practice,
o autonomy in research work,
o consideration to professional ethics.
Their specific competences will address:
o ability to solve research problems in the field of agricultural economics,
o development of skills and knowledge in the research area of agricultural economics and related disciplines,
o use of standard empirical methods in the research area of agricultural economics and related disciplines,
o ability of presentation of research results to wider audience by publishing in scientific journals.
Types of study units in PhD Study Programme
* Methodological and ethical aspects of research work (Ivancic, Turk, Rozman, Borec), 30 ECTS
* Project work - Literature (PhD supervisor), 15 ECTS
* Project work - methodology (PhD supervisor), 15 ECTS
* PhD thesis Preparation (PhD supervisor), 120 ECTS
Proposed PhD study is aimed towards qualification of top researcher, recognized in the international research sphere. First and second semester of the study are organized in the form of presented subjects 1-3 , with the project work on literature and methodology which should represent a part of PhD thesis. Second and third year of the study are intended for the PhD thesis preparation and individual research work conducted by a student.

Take testThe student can be enrolled in doctoral study programme of Agricultural Economics if he/she (Act on higher education, paragraph 38.a ):
* completed the graduatestudy programme,
* completed at least four years undergraduate study programme on a suitable professional area (agricultural and biotechnical sciences, economics, business and administration, technical sciences, informatics and law) and are successful at research and professional work which can be evaluated with 60 credits (ECTS),
* students having Master's degree can directly be enrolled in the second year of doctoral study programme of Agricultural Economics (before the legislation changes). 60 ECTS are included,
* completed undergraduate study programme and study programme »specialization« in duration of five years, 300 credits (ECTS) respectively,
* completed undergraduate study programme and study programme »specialization« on a suitable professional area that are listed in the above in duration of less than five years, and are successful at research and professional work that can be evaluated with 60 credits (ECTS).
A student, who completed his/her education abroad in accordance to the above stated conditions, can also be enrolled.
In the case of enrolment limitation, the candidates will be chosen according to the grades of graduate studies (80%) and the average grade of the MSci study (20%).
Working language of course is Slovenian. For candidates whose native language is not Slovenian, the language of the course and during research work will be English. Every student is assigned a personal mentor from the teaching staff. Exams are either held in English or Slovenian language, as preferred by the student. Students can write their Doctoral thesis in English or in Slovenian. The aim of the Doctoral thesis is to show ability for independently work on a problem of the subject-area by applying scientific methods.
