The main PhD program in GERMAN LANGUAGE STUDIES aims to educate and qualify superb professionals in the field of German linguistic, i.e. German literary scholarship.
Besides in depth, subject-specific knowledge and research methodology, the student will acquire a broad humanistic perspective. Based on these, he /she will acquire the ability to understand complex linguistic concepts: i.e.; issues in literary theory,, and theoretical and methodological concepts. He /she will be capable of independently developing, creating and publishing the new knowledge, developing critical thinking, and will be morally and ethically responsible in conceiving research activities in his or her chosen field, and of competently conducting scholarly research projects. The suggested program is also up-to-date regarding the chosen content, and methodologically adapted for interdisciplinary research projects. This is why it assures an education and qualifications suited to contemporary professionals. They will be able to deal in depth with their own professional field, and at the same time, with general, transferable knowledge and skills, to cope with the demands of a contemporary learning society. They will be the highest professionally and academically qualified professionals in the field of German language studies, and trained in interdisciplinary research cooperation.
The PhD program in German Language Studies has the following aims:
- To deepen and upgrade knowledge and skills acquired at previous levels of education,
- to upgrade the student's foreign language communication skills, especially the skill of argumentation, and debate performance,
- to educate for independent, professionally critical and responsible work in professional fields, which demands supreme knowledge in the field of German linguistics, i.e. German literary theory,
- to transfer the methodological knowledge and skills required by independent research in the selected field,
- to incorporate students into existing scholarly research projects in the field of German studies in both the domestic and international environments
- to consolidate and up improve a sense of justice, dignity and ethics in professional work.

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

Take testAnyone who has successfully completed the following may register in the 3RD-cycle PhD study program in GERMAN STUDIES:
a) a 2nd -cycle study program;
b) a university study program adopted before June 11th 2004;
c) a higher education professional study program adopted before June 11th 2004, and a study program for obtaining specialization.
The study programme is generally implemented in the German language; therefore, knowledge of the German language is recommended at least at the B2 level according to the European language scale defining the recognition of abilities and skills in a foreign language.
Before registration in the study program, candidates under point (c) are assigned the following study obligations in the amount of 31 ECTS within the study course German Language, and 30 ECTS within the study course German Literature. These obligations are the following:

d) A study program that educates students for occupations that have been defined by EU directives, or another unified Masters study program, with a value of 300 ECTS.
In case of limited admittance, candidate selection will be based on the following criteria:
· Average grade in the prior study programme completed (70%)
· Success in the elective subject (30%)
