The third level SOCIOLOGY study program objectives stem from the specifics of sociology and social sciences. Such knowledge forms a post graduate student into an individual capable of recognizing the significance of knowledge and skills in a contemporary pluralistic environment, especially regarding Slovenia´s integration into the European Union and consequently increased value-cultural contacts. Beside deepening knowledge on a general theoretical-conceptual level at the 1st and 2nd level, at the 3rd level the student acquires an additional practical application of knowledge, and practical experiences prepare him or her to enter the labor market in Slovenia and in other EU countries. Broad competencies developed by the student increase his or her employment possibilities, while specific knowledge of sociology and society present high qualifications and acquaintance with concrete working tasks in the field of sociology and other social sciences, politics, economy, anthropology, pedagogy, philosophy, information science, social work and work in governmental and non-governmental organizations.
The students´ knowledge and its application stem from scholarly research work, which involves knowing and applying statistical methodological approaches and starting-points, representing the basis for process analysis in a global society, establishing their causes and predicting their long-term consequences, and creating strategies for ameliorating their potentially negative consequences. With an increased connection of knowledge and relations in the European Union countries, the emphasis is on the student´s understanding of the significance of cooperation and integration, especially in terms of intercultural dialogue and effective professional communication, in Slovene and other languages.
The basic aim of the program is to form an open, flexible and well versed person who is at the same time sufficiently specialized and capable of accomplishing specific tasks demanded by the labor market at a particular moment. During the study process, students become highly motivated, as the acquired knowledge and competencies give them opportunities to become included in a further, lifelong educational process.
