The PhD in Business Administration and Quantitative Methods is offered jointly by the Departments of Business Administration and Statistics. The mission of the program is to develop leading scholars in finance, management, marketing, accounting, operations research, statistics and econometrics for careers in research and teaching at leading universities and business schools. A broad knowledge of business ensures that students fully appreciate the interdependencies and complexity of management problems. At the same time, a strong training in quantitative methods introduces them to the possibility of interdisciplinary and qualified empirical research.

The program is full-time and starts in September. Students are expected to finish their dissertation in two to three years. There are two ways of entry into the program. The main one is the Master in Business Administration and Quantitative Methods offered at Universidad Carlos III. Students who graduate from that program with a minimum required grade point average can enter the PhD program. We also admit a very limited number of students who hold a similar Master degree from another institution. However, in those cases, admission may be conditional on taking some additional courses and presenting a dissertation proposal.

The PhD holders in Business Administration and Quantitative Methods will obtain an exceptional background as the Programme gives a deep knowledge in quantitative perspectives within the Business Administration. Therefore, they will be able to model most of the current conflicts arising in the modern companies and to have analytic tools to solve those conflicts accurately.

In consequence, our PhD students have a wide range of possibilities in the labour market, such as:

* - Becoming a management professor in colleges where quantitative aspects are highly considered. Furthermore, given the multidisciplinary character of the Programme offered, they will have the required knowledge to apply not only for Business but also for Statistics or Econometrics departments. This is obviously a clear advantage in comparison with candidates from other more specialised PhD Programmes.
* - Due to the multidisciplinary character of the Programme, our doctors can also develop non-academic careers in companies looking for candidates with highly specialised management knowledge as well as capable of using analytic tools to get the optimal solutions.
* - The PhD Graduates in Business Administration and Quantitative Methods are also prospective candidates for international consultancy companies which assess other companies in conflictive situations such as, for example, the introduction of new products and processes requiring advanced statistical analysis, updates of compensation methods to stakeholders, redesigning of contracts in conflictive financial situations and, overall, general redesigning within an organization.
* - Given the specialization in multivariate analysis held by some of the Professors participating in the programme, our students will have an excellent background to analyse complex situations in contexts of large uncertainty. Thus they will be extremely attractive candidates for the biggest international consultancy companies.
