Ph.D. graduate studies in Telematics Engineering lead to the writing of the Ph.D. dissertation and to the Ph.D. degree in Telematics Engineering. A thesis director is assigned on the research area selected by the student, and he is trained in the selected area's techniques while writing the Ph.D. dissertation under the guidance of his supervisor.

The Ph.D. student benefits from the graduate program's inter-university nature with the possibility of doctorate dissertation co-supervision by professors from both Universities. Writing in international publications, giving presentations in conferences and assisting to workshops and seminars taught by internationally recognized scientists in both centres form part of the routine complementary activities of these studies.

The multiple technologies that compose the Telematics Engineering field: transmission, networks, protocol architectures, communication services and applications, networked devices, and a long etcetera, constitute one of the most active research areas in developed countries. The Graduate Program in Telematics Engineering is adapted to the European Space of Higher Education (ESHE), whose objective is to endow the student of the adequate theoretical, technological and methodological training to help him start his doctoral dissertation in this field essential for the evolution of Internet.

Furthermore, the Programme's approach, in which advanced technologies training is emphasised, makes it ideal for updating the knowledge of Communications Technology professionals with the latest trends in applications, communication services and networks (such as ubiquitous computing, new generation and broadband networks, multimedia transport, web technologies, mobile systems, ad-hoc networks, sensor networks, etc.), with the added value of obtaining an official interuniversity master's degree in Telematics Engineering, according to the ESHE and recognised in the EU.

The proposed programme offers the students advanced training not only in the fundamental disciplines upon which the technologies are developed, but also in the most relevant current specific topics, and includes courses specific to the learning of research methods, with which students may better approach the writing of a doctoral dissertation after having obtained their master's degree.
