The Cardiovascular Sciences Interdisciplinary Research Group aims to facilitate basic and clinical research in vascular and myocardial biology within the School of Medicine.
The following research areas are of particular strength:
* Cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying inherited and acquired cardiac pathology
* Calcium signalling and excitation-contraction coupling in cardiomyocytes
* Structure, function and regulation of the ryanodine receptor-calcium release channel
* The role of the endothelium in the control of vascular function
* The role of nitric oxide within the vasculature
* The role of gap junctions in arterial signalling
* Physiological role of nitric oxide metabolites
* Pathological oxidative stress within the endothelium
* Cardiac Ultrasound
* Risk factors in cardiovascular disease
* Integrated clinical cardiovascular physiology, including large artery physiology and cardiac-arterial coupling

Applicants should possess a minimum of an upper second class Honours degree, Masters degree, or equivalent in a relevant subject. In some cases, a medical degree and/or relevant professional qualifications or experience are required.
Note: International students pursuing part-time programmes of study are not eligible for Tier 4 General Student) visas and must have alternative leave to remain in the UK if they intend to study at the University in person.
