Research opportunities are available in the broad areas of metabolism, diabetes and its complications.
* The metabolic syndrome, insulin resistance and control of adipocyte precursor cell differentiation
* Diabetes mellitus-epidemiology and natural history
* Aetiology of diabetic nephropathy
* Investigation of new treatments for type 1 and type 2 diabetes
* Aetiology of impaired wound healing in diabetes
* Aetiology of low bone mineral density in diabetes
* Regulation of body composition
In addition there are several areas of particular strength (listed below) provided by participants of the group in collaboration with other IRGs within the School of Medicine or research groups within Cardiff University.
* Tissue engineering (CITER)
* Extracellular matrix (CITER)
* Nephrology (I4)
* The aetiology, diagnosis and management of pituitary tumours (Cancer)
* Aetiology of low mineral density and osteonecrosis in childhood ALL (Cancer)
* Physiological and pathophysiological effects of hormones on vascular function (Cardiology)
* Thyroid autoimmunity, thyroid disease and pregnancy, thyroid eye disease (I4)
