Cardiff welcomes applications from students interested in researching for a PhD in the specialist areas below. The school provides training and a high level of support, and the postgraduate community contributes vitally to the University's international reputation for research.
The following research areas are of particular strength:
* The causes and scale of climate variability
* Reconstructing past variability in ocean circulation, temperatures and seawater chemistry
* The sensitivity of terrestrial and marine environments to naturally occurring climatic perturbations during the recent (historical) and geological past
* The taxonomy, palaeoecology and evolutionary relationships of marine microfossils, including foraminifera and diatoms
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.

Suitable for graduates in Earth and Ocean Sciences and related disciplines, and in marine and environmental sciences.
A first or upper second class Honours degree or equivalent is required.
Note: International students pursuing part-time programmes of study are not eligible for Tier 4 General Student) visas and must have alternative leave to remain in the UK if they intend to study at the University in person.
