The School provides training and a high level of support to its research students, and the postgraduate community contributes substantially to the University's international reputation for research. Students who have not completed an MA or a research methods training course normally follow the first two terms of the taught MA for generic skills and core training while reading for their PhD thesis.

Special Features:
* Cardiff, the home of a new Welsh Assembly Government and administrative centre, makes the Cardiff European Studies School ideally suited for students wishing to research work on regional politics in the European Union
* The Collingwood and British Idealism Centre and the Welsh Governance Centre
* Formal and informal work-in-progress seminars in this wider context allow students to interact with other staff and postgraduates, and to develop their presentation skills.
* Postgraduate attendance at, and participation in, national and international conferences is strongly encouraged and financially supported.

A minimum 2:1 degree classification or Master's degree is required.
Applicants whose first language is not English are normally expected to meet the minimum University requirements (e.g. 6.5 IELTS).
Note: International students pursuing part-time programmes of study are not eligible for Tier 4 General Student) visas and must have alternative leave to remain in the UK if they intend to study at the University in person.
