The Doctoral Programme in Environmental Sciences aims to combine the pursuit of solutions to global issues (environment, ecology and social development) and a new methodological philosophy improving young researchers’ scientific culture and skills.

The focus is on the development and consistent acquisition of an interdisciplinary cast of mind, which represents a definitely new need for some subjects such as biology, chemistry, physics and earth sciences since they have generally required a very specialist education and a sectoral research.

In cooperation with

University of Joinville-Univille, Brasil

Research subjects

The Lagoon of Venice has been subject of several studies for many decades, which allowed Ca’ Foscari University and the National Research Council - Marine Science Department (CNR-ISMAR, in Italian: Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche - Istituto di Scienze Marine) to get enough details about its physical, biological and geochemical conditions.

That is the reason why the Lagoon of Venice can be considered as a Natural Analogue for gaining any necessary information to understand relations among physics, chemistry and biology, thus improving data quality, enhancing understanding of current processes and developing conceptual and physical-mathematical models of environmental processes both on a detailed and global scale.

The Natural Analogue ‘Lagoon of Venice’ represents in fact the basis for studying all of the ‘transition’ systems (lagoons, delta areas, wet lands) on a global scale.

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.

Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
