Location of Ca' Foscari University of Venice
This Doctoral Programme mainly aims to provide for:
- the acquisition of individual skills necessary to tackle specialist research problems and issues within the ministerial disciplinary areas of the Doctoral Programme (from theoretical linguistics to modern language teaching and linguistics of the various languages chosen);
- the development of a theoretical-critical bent for the study of linguistic phenomena;
- the command of issues concerning the theory of language and language teaching.
Contents
Within the relevant ministerial disciplinary areas, the Doctoral Programme is broken down into the following fundamental educational and research subjects:
- teaching of modern languages and communication theory: in-depth analysis of issues related to language teaching, also by multimedia support;
- theoretical generative linguistics: comparative analysis of the worldwide language grammars with a view to grasping the power of language.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.

- Italian Second Cycle Degree (‘Laurea Specialistica’ according to Ministerial Decree No 509/1999 or ‘Laurea Magistrale’ according to Ministerial Decree No 270/2004);
- Italian Degree taken in compliance with the so-called ‘Vecchio Ordinamento’ (before Ministerial Decree No 509/1999);
- equivalent academic qualification gained abroad, as previously recognised to be suitable.
