We announce the 2nd recruitment for this PhD programme in mathematics and computer science which is funded by the European Structural Funds through the International PhD Projects programme run by the Foundation for Polish Science. It offers tax-free scholarships of about 1000 U.S. dollars per month plus a lot of extra funds for travel, computer equipment etc. This time we recruit for 6 topics in several complex variables and dynamical systems. Every topic is run in cooperation with very good foreign universities. The deadline for (electronic) submission of applications is April 30, 2011 – see Krakow is a great place for PhD studies!
Application Schedule for 2011
1. Important dates of the recruitment procedure: * April 30, 2011 - deadline for submitting the application
* May 1-9, 2011 - evaluation of the documents by the Recruitment Committee
* May 11, 2011 - interviews with the candidates with highest rank
* till May 30, 2011 - the Recruitment Committee announces the list of candidates approved for the programme, the PhD programme begins
* September 1, 2011 - the programme for 5 projects selected in 2011 starts.
2. Candidates must meet the following requirements: * have a master degree (or equivalent) in: mathematics, physics or computer science or show clear evidence of completion before July 1, 2011
* the diploma must be dated after January 1, 2007
* have a good command of English.
3. The following documents must be delivered by the applicants: * CV including full contact information (address, phone, e-mail) as well as the list of achievements (e.g. participation in tournaments for students, participation in conferences, lectures given at conferences and seminars, list of research publications with preprints, list of scholarships awarded, prizes)
* Copy of the master degree diploma with a supplement detailing taken courses (together with grades)
* Master thesis (if applicable)
* a reference letter from the tutor sent directly to the Committee (at MPD@im.uj.edu.pl) is recommended.
4. Candidates may also provide the following: * up to two letters of recommendation sent directly to the Committee (at MPD@im.uj.edu.pl) by other scientists
* documents confirming the knowledge of English.
All documents should be uploaded using the Application Form, the only acceptable formats are doc, jpg and pdf.
After the evaluation the Recruitment Committee will inform the candidates by e-mail of their results in the first part of the recruitment. The candidates with the highest ranks will be invited for an interview which will be held on May 11, 2011, in the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science of the Jagiellonian University, Lojasiewicza 6, Kraków, Poland. Candidates may also be interviewed online or by phone.
The Committee will select for each PhD topic a candidate with the highest rank.
