PhD students contribute regularly to seminars, colloquia, etc in the department and are encouraged to participate in national and international graduate conferences.

Duration: PhD – 3 years full-time; MPhil – 1 year full-time
A more detailed list of the research interests of staff is shown below. Candidates considering research in a different area are encouraged to contact the Department to enquire whether expert supervision is available.
PhD students work in close collaboration with other students and their supervisor to conceive, research and write a (circa 80,000-word) dissertation. Students meet their supervisors approximately every fortnight. It is the supervisor's role to guide the student through the research process.
Students also have an academic adviser, who assists with more general academic and methodological issues, and a mentor, who provides pastoral care and help with more practical issues. Additional research training is available. All postgraduate research students are provided with office space and computer, printing and copying facilities.
PhD students contribute regularly to seminars, colloquia, etc in the department and are encouraged to participate in national and international graduate conferences.
