Initially, you study alongside postgraduate students on one of our five Master’s programmes in computing science. You can choose from: bioinformatics and computational systems biology; computing science; Internet technologies and enterprise computing; computer security and resilience; or computer games engineering. The subject-specific and research training modules covered by these programmes help you develop the topic for your Integrated PhD thesis and equip you with the study skills to manage your research project.
The next phase of your studies is research-led and the focus is your research project, which will be written up as a 50,000-word thesis. You share office space with other postgraduate research students and have regular meetings with two designated academic supervisors with additional expert support being provided by other academics in the School of Computing Science. Alongside your research, you will also attend professional skills modules. Depending on your preference, these will either focus on entrepreneurship (business enterprise for postgraduates; enterprise and entrepreneurship) or, if you are planning to pursue a career in higher education, academic practice (introduction to teaching and learning in higher education; module design).
