The PhD programme is now in its eights year of activity, it is widely recognized as one of the best Italian PhD programs in Public Economics, and has built a very promising track record in placing its graduates.

In the first year, students attend six compulsory courses (Mathematics, Econometrics, Public Economics, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics and Research Methods) The economics and quantitative methods contents of the courses are very thorough. In the second year, students attend advanced courses on specific topics aimed to prepare them for their dissertation.

Coursework includes:

· Lectures

· Tutorials

· Essay-writing and presentations

First year students at Defap Graduate School can enroll directly to the 3 year-doctoral programme or to 1 year-master programme. After completing the master programme, successful students have the opportunity to compete for a PhD position endowed with a scholarship.

Requirements

Application for the doctoral and master programme can be made by Italian and foreign citizens who have:

· An Italian four-year diploma di laurea (degree) or a laurea magistrale degree

· Any foreign academic qualification previously recognised as equivalent by the academic authorities, or recognised in accordance with inter-university agreements of co-operation and mobility

9 PhD scholarships will be awarded on merit.
Undergraduate students can apply without their degree. In this case, admission will be accepted conditionally and the candidate will have to submit the diploma di laurea or the foreign academic qualification by the deadline matriculation, or give up the place.
