The Programme aims to train experts in the various fields of economic, law, political, historical, linguistic, philological-literary and artistic subjects, whose skills will be further enhanced by the direct analysis of sources in the following languages: Arabic, Aramaic, Armenian, Chinese, Korean, Hebrew, Georgian, Japanese, Hindi, Persian, Sanskrit, Tibetan, Turkish, Urdu and Yiddish.

Contents

The Doctoral Programme focuses on the in-depth study of the languages spoken in the Near East, North Africa, Southern Asia and Far East, taught at Ca’ Foscari University. In particular, they are: Arabic, Aramaic, Armenian, Chinese, Korean, Hebrew, Georgian, Japanese, Hindi, Persian, Sanskrit, Tibetan, Turkish, Urdu and Yiddish.

The geographical area where these languages are spoken embraces a wide variety of countries: from Morocco to India, from Caucasus and ex-Soviet Central Asia to Sri Lanka, from China to Japan and Korea. These are countries with a very ancient civilization, now oriented to a rapid economic development. Therefore, this Research Doctorate is designed in a way to stimulate research on both classical studies and those related to the contemporary world.

Language study, that is definitely an asset in this Research Doctorate, is connected with a merely philological-literary approach or can be exploited within researches on artistic, scientific or contemporary sectors (economics, sociology, international politics, etc.).

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.

Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
