Location of IEDC Bled School of Management

Innovative doctoral program, built on IEDC's history of excellence in executive education, and focused on the issues of strategy, leadership, and general management.

According to legal requirements, the doctoral program is equivalent to 3 years of full time studies, which equal 180 ECTS or 5,400 hours of direct or indirect study load. Given the preference of IEDC, wanting to offer a part-time program, the program is a 4-year modular doctoral program resulting in the production of an original Doctoral Thesis.

Candidates for the PhD program in the academic year 2011-12 should submit their applications by 1 July, 2011. Eligible candidates will be invited for interviews with two faculty members assigned by the IEDC -Bled School of Management, Postgraduate studies. Successful completion of the interviews is a mandatory requirement for enrollment.

Doctoral Dissertation

The Doctoral dissertation will represent original research by the PhD candidate in the areas of Strategic Management and/or Leadership. The dissertation may be presented as a single monograph or as a series of articles. A doctoral dissertation in the form of a monograph is an extensive, comprehensive, and detailed treatment of a defined research issue. A doctoral dissertation in the form of a collection of published articles, articles accepted for publication, and articles suitable for publication is a collection of scholarly contributions in a specific area and must be accompanied by an introduction and a summary.

Exceptionally, and with permission from the Committe for Postgraduate Studies obtained at the end of the first year of studies, two candidates may complete a joint doctoral research project and write a joint doctoral dissertation.

This will be allowed if:

  • Clear synergy of joint work is evident, leading to higher quality of the research output than would be the case with separate, individual efforts;
  • The contribution of each of the two doctoral students to the doctoral research and to the dissertation text is clearly identifiable and separable;
  • It is clear from the proposal that the contribution of each of the two doctoral students will have the volume and quality corresponding to the one expected for individual doctoral research and dissertation.
