The degree course in Food Technology involves the sphere of food processing and production, including the use and development of knowledge of biological, chemical, engineering and economic scientific disciplines.

Based on the acquired profound theoretical knowledge in the field of food production technology, chemistry and food analysis, biochemistry, microbiology and process engineering, graduates are qualified to independently carry out R&D results in the sphere of food technologies.

Graduates have acquired knowledge of engineering processes and their application in technological procedures in food production and processing. Furthermore, their knowledge is developed as regards the influence of technological processes on the chemical composition, physicochemical, bio-chemical, microbiological and nutritional characteristics of products to be processed.

Requirements

To be eligible for admission to study in doctoral degree programmes the applicant must have completed the university education in a master degree programme or the applicant must be in the last year of their master degree study programme at the university and must complete their study in the academic year 2010/11.

The applicant for study in the English language is not required to attend the admission interview in person provided that they send a letter of motivation in English together with the application form. The applicant that will not send the letter of motivation will be invited for the admission interview in writing, no later than 14 days prior to the interview date.

Funding details

TBU SCHOLARSHIP in the amount of CZK 96,000 per year (i.e. approx. EUR 3,840) for international students in full-time Doctoral degree programmes taught in the English language

TBU scholarship – Eligibility procedure (in compliance with the Instruction of the Vice-Rector for International Relations PP/1/2011):

1. An international student (a citizen of a foreign country) who is successfully admitted to study in an accredited full-time Doctoral degree programme taught in the English language at Tomas Bata University in Zlín (TBU) in the academic year 2011/12 is automatically eligible for the TBU scholarship (hereinafter referred to as “scholarship”).

2. The scholarship is not intended for students who are citizens of the Czech Republic.

3. Starting from the academic year 2011/12, TBU guarantees to international students in Doctoral programmes taught in English (full-time mode of study) to grant them a scholarship amounting to CZK 8,000 per month (i.e. CZK 96,000 per year = approx. EUR 3,840) in their first year of study and CZK 6,000 per month (i.e. 72,000 per year = approx. EUR 2,880) in the following years of study during the standard length of study (2nd, 3rd, 4th year of study – depending on the accreditation)

4. To be eligible for the scholarship amounting to CZK 7,000 per month or CZK 8,000 per month in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th year of study (depending on the accreditation), students must obtain the required number of points (see below) necessary for the eligibility for the relevant scholarship.

5. The scholarship can be paid only during the 3 or 4 years of the Doctoral degree programme (depending on the accreditation) and shall not be paid to a student who suspended or finished his/her studies or who changed from full-time to part-time mode of study. The scholarship will cease to be paid in the month in which it was without a doubt detected that the student fails to meet the academic requirements.

Scholarship in the 1st year of study: CZK 8,000 per month
Scholarship in the 2nd, 3rd or 4th year of study: CZK 6,000 – 8,000 per month

Faculty

The Faculty of Technology at Tomas Bata University in Zlín is the oldest faculty in Zlín. It provides higher education within Bachelor, Master and PhD programmes and it is authorized to appoint Associate Professors and Professors. Throughout the years, the faculty has significantly contributed to the development of the town and to the advancement of education in the region. Zlín has become a university town and the faculty, as part of Tomas Bata University in Zlín, has become its inseparable part.
