High-quality, accessible healthcare is a national priority. Through Walden’s Ph.D. in Health Services program, you can gain the skills and experience needed to help prepare you for leadership positions in healthcare administration and policy in a variety of public and private healthcare settings. You can learn to evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of healthcare policy, broaden your knowledge of healthcare ethics and law, and engage in scientific inquiry to advance research and practice in health services. You also can be prepared to meet the challenges of today’s healthcare system and to lead and inform the dialogue about key health services issues.
The program offers you three ways to learn, depending on the specialization you choose:
Course-Based Format
This option is a structured program of study comprising online courses and residencies. As a student, you will work with a faculty mentor and follow a specific plan for completion of your degree. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with peers and faculty members through online discussions and residencies.
Self-Directed Format
This option allows you to study independently while working with a faculty mentor to complete scholarly papers and study topics that reflect your interests. In addition to attending residencies, you will complete faculty-guided independent research through Walden’s signature Knowledge Area Modules (KAMs).
Mixed-Model Format
This option combines online courses, residencies, and KAMs to provide a flexible program of study. You will have the opportunity to work closely with a faculty mentor, study and conduct research on topics that interest you, and learn from faculty members through online courses.
All formats offer you the opportunity to reach a significant and highly respected milestone in your professional career—a Ph.D.—while helping you understand the theories, concepts, and techniques that can broaden your skills in the health services field. General Program
The General Program offers an interdisciplinary approach to earning a health services degree. You’ll study how health intersects with several aspects of human behavior, including health and healing, health and professional behavior, health and social behavior, and health and lifespan issues.
Note: You have the option to design your own course of study; however, it must fit within the existing structure of the General Program. It must also be developed in consultation with program faculty members and be approved by the faculty chair.

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
