Philosophy is a broad and varied subject, and our postgraduate programmes reflect this variety. No single school dominates Philosophy at Kent and we support a variety of approaches.
We also support interdisciplinary study:
* Philosophy is part of the School of European Culture and Languages and there are ample opportunities for meeting post-graduate students in other disciplines.
* Philosophy also runs the Centre for Reasoning which offers interdisciplinary teaching and research on topics related to reasoning and inference.
We hold four, six-week staff-student research seminars in philosophy every Wednesdays 1-3 during term time. There is also a self-run graduate student seminar that meets regularly throughout the year.
We also offer the following research degrees
* MA by research: one year full-time of two years part time.
* MPhil: two years full-time or three years part-time.
* PhD: three years full-time or five years part-time.
If you are considering applying to do a research degree in philosophy at Kent, please do feel free to discuss your plans over email with a member of staff whose interests are close to your own.
