The Doctoral Programme in Business Studies educates national and international level experts and researchers in business studies. High-level business expertise is needed in universities, institutions of higher education, private and public sector research institutes, and other units connected to entrepreneurship, and in demanding executive, development and other expert positions of private and public sectors.

The aim of the programme is that the students gain in-depth understanding of their research field, its development, central research questions, social significance, and gain the abilities to critically and independently apply methods of scientific research and create new scientific knowledge in their study field. Students in the Doctoral Programme in Business Studies complete a Doctor of Science in Economics and Business Administration, D.Sc. (Econ. & Bus. Adm.), degree.

The programme is closely connected with the following research groups in business studies at the university:

* Auditing and Control in Accounting (accounting and finance)
* Finance and Financial Accounting Research Group (accounting and finance)
* Human Resource Management as a Strategic Competitive Factor (management)
* Networked Value Systems (management)
* Consumption Research and Customer Value Creation (marketing)
* Successful International Business Strategies in Changing Multicultural World (marketing)
* Intangible Capital Research Group (economics)
* ICT Law Research Group (business law)
* Industrial Management Research Group (industrial management)

Post-graduate students will be associated with these research groups to develop meaningful research topics, their national and international contacts, and their ability to work as a member of a research group.

The programme collaborates with the following national graduate schools in particular: KATAJA (business studies), KAVA (economics) and OMY (business law). The students of the programme can participate in events organised by these schools, and in organising national and international courses and seminars. They can also utilize the contacts that the different research groups have with corporate partners.
