Location of WMG, International Manufacturing Centre, University of Warwick

Our PhD program aims to train you in rigorous research methods that will allow you to become part of an international community of scholars and industry leaders. You will work with supervisors who hold research interests in a large range of inter-disciplinary subjects offered within WMG.

Expertise and advanced facilities enable research related to digital technologies, materials and manufacturing, and operations and business management. These research themes cross a number of sectors including automotive; aerospace and defence; digital; energy and utilities; food and drink; government; healthcare and pharmaceutical.

There are currently PhD projects available within WMG to start either immediately or in the 2012/2013 academic year. They are best seen as examples of the work that might be done within one of our three Research Theme Groups rather than as a definitive list. We are more than happy for applicants to suggest their own projects.

Some of the projects have some funding particularly for Home or EU applicants. There are a number of different possibilities so it is best to determine the situation directly with the member of staff.

Current research projects are undertaken in the following areas:

  • Digital Lifecycle Management
  • e-Business
  • Experiential Engineering
  • Healthcare Technologies
  • Informatics and Virtual Reality
  • Materials and Manufacturing
  • Polymers and Composites
  • Service Systems
  • Supply Chain and Logistics
  • Sustainable Materials
  • Visualisation

Funding details

We have a number of funding options available for research students. Some of our current projects are fully or partially funded. The majority of these are for Home/EU applicants, though we may also be able to help with fees for those from overseas. We also have a number of scholarships for those who wish to undertake their own project.

Currently Resident in the UK

In many cases, support is available from The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) for those who have a minimum 2:1 Hons degree and who are normally resident in the UK. This will usually fund registration fees and give a stipend for the year.

Non-UK Resident

Overseas applicants are encouraged to apply for a Warwick Collaborative Research Scholarship. We also have a number of full and fees only scholarships available from WMG.

Further details about funding options can be obtained from engd@warwick.ac.uk
