The doctorate program of the Center for NanoScience (CeNS) offers outstanding graduate students from all around the world doctoral positions in the area of NanoBioTechnology. Regular lectures and seminars as well as summer workshops and winter schools provide the students with an effective introduction to the interdisciplinary field of nanobiosciences. Early in the program, students have the opportunity to participate in international conferences and in exchange programs with other nanoscience centers. The lectures, workshops and seminars of the Doctorate Program NanoBioTechnology and those of the Center for NanoScience are held in English.
The doctorate program currently offers 14 doctoral positions for outstanding graduate students, starting between May and October 2012. Successful candidates will work in the stimulating interdisciplinary environment of the Center for NanoScience (CeNS) based in Munich. The PhD students will be supervised by principal investigators of CeNS and will be affiliated with the Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich (LMU). The recommended duration of the PhD is 3 years. The degree awarded by LMU Munich is a Dr.rer.nat.

* Bachelor Degree (or equivalent, e.g. Vordiplom) in either the field of physics, chemistry or life sciences
* either prepare for a Master Degree (or equivalent, e.g. Diplom) in one of the same fields to be concluded no later than 2 months before the start of the scholarship or hold a Master Degree (or equivalent, e.g. Diplom)
* excellent grades
* a very good command of the English language
* strong scientific motivation
* interest in the activities of CeNS
* interest in interdisciplinary research
