Kingston Business School is a recognised ESRC (Economic and Social Research Council) outlet and ESRC recognises this programme as fulfilling its requirements to provide broad-based research training. The Kingston PhD offers the unique opportunity to obtain an MSc in Management and Business Studies Research as part of your progression through the programme.

The distinct characteristic of the Kingston PhD is that you are able to gain the MSc in Management and Business Studies Research as part of your doctoral studies. The MSc is fully integrated within the PhD programme and is designed to provide a sound training in business research methods as well as a critical understanding of how organisations and their external environment are managed.
Your PhD thesis should be around 80,000 words and will be the subject of an oral examination in which you will show both how you have critically investigated your area of research and made an independent and original contribution to knowledge.

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
Take testCandidates should normally possess:
- a first or second class honours undergraduate degree OR a Master´s degree, in general management or a business-related subject
- two personal references from academic referees confirming candidates' suitability for the programme
In addition, candidates should be able to provide evidence of:
- relevant educational, professional and personal experience
- their ability to meet the high intellectual and personal demands of the programme
- their potential to complete the programme within the designated time.
Holders of non-UK degree qualifications will be subject to the University´s normal entry procedures with regard to the assessment of the equivalence of qualifications.
International applicants
Holders of non-UK degrees will be subject to the University´s normal entry procedures for equivalence of qualifications. If English is not your first language you will be required to demonstrate your written and verbal proficiency by achieving a recognised qualification such as:
- IELTS (British Council): overall score of 7.0
- TOEFL iBT: overall score of 100 with minimum 23/30 in Reading/Writing
- TOEFL paper test: minimum score of 600 and TWE of 5
- TOEFL computer test: minimum score of 250 and TWE of 5
Those with lower scores will normally be required to complete a pre-sessional English course.
