Location of Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT)

The research of KSOP is organised according to the needs in education and the prominent strengths of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). We have structured KSOP along the following four research areas: Photonic Materials & Devices, Advanced Spectroscopy, Biomedical Photonics and Optical Systems. All research areas are strongly interlinked and most institutes feature research projects in more than one of the research areas.

Contents

Our Ph.D. students are involved in an excellent research environment in the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) which bundles the research and education strengths of the Universität Karlsruhe (TH) and the Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe together with strong partners like the Research Centre for Information Technologies in Karlsruhe (FZI) and the Stuttgart-based Centre for Solar Energy and Hydrogen Research (ZSW). The compulsory modules consist of a specific training programme which includes units from a catalogue of technical, scientific and management modules. Since successful careers in industry or academia often require leadership and interdisciplinary knowledge, emphasis is placed on management skills, which are taught within the KSOP at the HECTOR School of Engineering & Management, the business school of the Universität Karlsruhe (TH).

Advisor and mentorship concept:

A scientifically oriented PhD advisor concept and a sophisticated non-scientifically related mentorship model assure the high quality of Ph.D. projects as well as a very effective 3-year PhD research period.

Networking:

Being a member of KSOP implies being part of a strong network in research and industry. Today, research projects are characterized by highly multidisciplinary approaches. Therefore the option of relying on an existing research network accelerates and enriches one's own research work.

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.

Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
