Services & Facilities

With its central location situated on the Anatolian Side of Istanbul and its easy access, our Altunizade Campus allows all Özyegin University members to become integrated with life, and pursue their academic, personal and social activities without becoming detached from the modern city life. Life at ÖzU enables academic activities to coexist with social and sports activities without being separated from each other by definite boundaries. Özyegin University frequently hosts meetings, panel discussions and seminars with the participation of prominent business and scientific circles. Open to all students and staff, these events add zest to university life and contribute to the personal development of students.

The established student clubs bring students with common interests together and foster the organization of group activities. The Student Clubs offer a wide selection of alternatives from the Business and Economy Club to the Dance Club and are solely governed by the students. The activities held on campus and at the sports areas of the residence halls are open to all students and staff. Our students are also encouraged to take part in the university's sports teams.

Sports Activities

Özyegin University not only supports students in their academic studies but also encourages them to take part in social, cultural and sports activities. As a big contribution to the physical and psychological development of students, sport activities are organized by the Student Services’ Extracurricular Activities Unit.

While some of the sports activities take place on-campus, some are organized at off-campus facilities.

Özyegin University also enriches its sports activities in line with student requests. Our students may pursue their past sports activities or may further develop themselves by trying some new sports.

Disabled Student Support

Support activities for disabled students are organized by the Development and Support Unit of the Student Services as per the Rules and Regulations for Higher Education Institutions on Disabled Counseling and Coordination drafted pursuant to Article 15 of the Law No:5378 on Disabled People and Amendment to Certain Law and Decrees dated as 1/7/2005.

The disabled student support activities are conducted based on the principle of equal opportunity in education. The main objectives of the disabled student activities include making the campus life more convenient for disabled students, planning necessary administrative arrangements to foster the education of disabled students, organizing curricula in a way not to obstruct the academic, physical, psychological and social lives of disabled students, contributing to their social and cultural life, encouraging them to benefit from and take part in social activities organized on campus for the purpose of helping them develop themselves and ensuring that they are subject to fair and right assessment and evaluation.

Student Residences

Özyegin University ‘s residential campus has 3 buildings; one is used as a residence hall for female students, another as a residence hall for male students, and the last one as faculty housing. Located in Çamlica, ten-minute away from the Altunizade campus, the residence halls offer easy access to the central parts of Istanbul.

The residence halls are home to our students with all necessary services to meet their basic needs and they offer every possible facility to foster an efficient study atmosphere.

* The Student Residence Halls have a total capacity of 302 students.
* Residence halls have two, four or five -person rooms for male students and two or five person rooms for female students.
* Rooms include a bed, with mattress and undersheet, a cushion, a blanket, a lockable desk with lamp, a chair and a closet for each student as well as internet connection.
* Students are responsible for providing their own personal care and hygiene materials.
* Rooms are cleaned once a day and common spaces (restrooms, showers etc) are cleaned everyday by the cleaning staff.
Students are responsible for the order of their beds and desks. * Each floor has an internal phone, common restrooms and shower facilities, a mini-kitchen equipped with a fridge, a water heater and a microwave oven.
* Each floor has a study lounge, a laundry room and an ironing room.
Irons, washing machines and drying machines available in the laundry rooms are free of charge. * The common spaces in residence halls for both male and female students include a TV room, a cafeteria, an infirmary and an ATM.
* The buildings have security, surveillance system and hot water available 24/7.
* The latest entrance hours for residence halls are 01.00 am on weekdays and 2:00 at the weekends.
* The residence halls are opened two days before the start of classes each semester.

Health

On our campus, a Healthcare Center is available which provides outpatient treatment. If deemed necessary, students and employees are referred to hospitals near the university for further examination and tests.

Personal Accident Insurance

Students are covered by the Group Personal Accident Insurance as per the “General Provisions for Personal Accident Insurance” applicable in Turkey and abroad as well as the special terms and conditions and coverage stated on the insurance policy. Students benefit from the personal accident insurance free of charge. The personal accident insurance is not a private health insurance. This is a system which takes effect in case of any health problems that may arise due to accidents.

Student Activities

Extracurricular activities help students develop and use their creativity, entrepreneurship, leadership, and research skills by supporting their social, cultural, artistic and physical development and prepare them as multi-dimensional, multi-cultured and healthy individuals. To this end, the university encourages and fosters its students contributing to the development and management of the university, founding student clubs, organizing social events and acquiring good habits for a healthy life.

Student Union

Özyegin University’s Student Union is a democratic, transparent, fast and efficient organization where all our students are natural members represented equally. The Student Union allows students to support the development and management of our University by providing new insights to the University community.

The mission of the Student Union is to contribute to meeting academic, cultural, sports and health needs of Özyegin University students. Student Union also adopts it as its mission to enforce the communication among students and take an active part in decision making regarding students. The Student Union also facilitates the communication between students and the divisions of the university and presents the recommendations and suggestions of students to the relevant divisions within the university.

The President of the Student Union and the members of the Executive Board and Audit Board are selected individually with the votes of students. This method grants candidates equal opportunity to participate in management while allowing students to have a voice in electing their own representatives without any intermediary. The Student Union consists of the Student Council, the Executive and Audit Boards, student representatives and work groups.

Student Clubs

Our students develop their organizational, communication and team work skills with the events they organize through student clubs. They learn by experiencing each phase of the project management and develop their communication network with each new project. This will allow our graduates to be the most sought after individuals not only in the academic world, but also in social and cultural environments. Our academic and administrative staff and professional trainers provide guidance for our students in their efforts.
Student clubs are established with at least ten founding members. Founding members find a faculty/staff member who accepts to serve as a club advisor, and with the guidance of their advisor they prepare a club bylaw which describes the club rules and procedures. Founding members also prepare an event plan which lists the events the club is planning to organize as well as the budget required for such events. The prepared bylaw, event plan and budget are then submitted to the Student Events Board. The clubs deemed appropriate are formally established with the approval of the rector. It is observed that new clubs do not conflict with other clubs’ line of activities and they contribute to the academic environment of the university. As having more than one club with similar line of activities and missions would prevent the efficient use of university resources, such clubs are joined together.

Club memberships and activities are open to all students. Membership requirements of clubs may vary depending on the clubs. Students apply to the club to which they wish to belong. Students who complete the membership requirements become the members of the club during the relevant academic year. Students may belong to as many clubs as they want; however they can only take part in the management of maximum two clubs.
Membership fee is the annual fee required by a club from all its members. The decision whether to charge any membership fee or not is rendered in the general board meetings by the clubs. When determining the amount of the membership fee, clubs must adhere to the minimum and maximum thresholds determined by the SEB in August each year. Clubs announce their membership fees to all their members in October.
Özyegin University's student clubs and their line of activities are as follows:

Dance Club

The Dance Club offers its members a chance to acquire a lifelong hobby by organizing dance courses and allows them to express themselves by dancing in a free and fun atmosphere. Activities of the dance club include tango, waltz, salsa and bachata courses and tango and Latin dance shows.

Outdoor Sports Club

The Outdoor Sports Club aims to arouse interest in activities such as trekking, cave exploration, and paintball; as well as to teach and practice outdoor sports. Outdoor sports not only help to maintain a much healthier physical and psychological state but also contribute to the protection of a sustainable environment.

Photography Club

Established to provide an opportunity to discover and exhibit hidden details in nature and in the environment surrounding us, the Photography Club contributes to development of its members in photography both within and outside the club. The club prepares a variety of workshops and course programs and organizes day trips towards this end.

Business and Economy Club

IThe Business and Economy Club examines the organization, operation and current issues of industries and services in the public and private sectors as well as the current issues relating to Turkish and global economy and explores the fields of business administration and economy. The club shares experiences of experts and companies with Özyegin University students, and organizes events to bring students together with the company and industry representatives to provide guidance to them in determining their future careers and occupations.

Caricature and Humor Club

The Caricature and Humor Club aims to develop and arouse interest in caricature and humor. The club organizes workshops to discover and build on caricature skills, immortalizes original works of caricature by means of magazines, books and posters, and excites interest in caricature and humor by organizing a variety of events including trips and competitions.

Debate and Idea Club

The primary objective of the Debate and Idea Club is to ensure that students express themselves the best possible way. The club organizes tournaments within the university for the purpose of delivering the necessary trainings to students and increasing the efficiency of teamwork and prepares the necessary infrastructure for students to share their ideas and information on any subject. The club also aims to represent Özyegin University in national and international debate competitions.

Cinema Club

A movie theatre, a screen, a movie, and those who create the movie, who screen the movie and who watch the movie…Cinema Club aims to bring cinema fans together and help our university students further their skills in the field of cinema. The club organizes film screenings and talks with movie makers; experiments with short and long films; and aims to start a short film festival.

Social Responsibility and Solidarity Club

Social Responsibility and Solidarity Club aims to encourage Özyegin University students to become more useful individuals in social life. To this end, the club strives to create individuals who are sensitive to the problems of society, and who try to develop theoretical and practical solutions for such problems and who act as a team. The club’s activities include donation campaigns, conferences and collaborative projects with a variety of non-governmental organizations.

Technology and Production Club

The mission of the Technology and Production Club is to closely follow up technological developments, to develop projects which enable technological products to be used in different areas and to design new products. The club also aims to raise the prominence of innovation, the most required concept in the age of technology, and make it a priority in our lives.

Theatre Club

The main goal of the Özyegin University's Theatre Club is to perform theatre. The club brings its members together with experts in art to share their expertise and provides trainings for its members. The club stages the play entitled “There Is A Play Going On” and organizes a variety of events to participate in television programs and theatre plays.

International Hotel Management and Tourism Club

The International Hotel Management and Tourism Club was established with the vision of creating awareness in students for modern hotel management and tourism. The club aims to explore hotels, accommodation facilities and tourism diversity in Turkey and to closely follow the tourism industry in Turkey and around the world.

Broadcast and Communication Club

The club announces the events held or planned on-campus or off-campus to Özyegin University students along with interviews, current developments, photographs as well as issuable research and advertisements. The club also publishes the Özyegin University Newspaper.

Student Initiatives

Entrepreneurs are people committed to make a difference in the society. And in order to cultivate individuals who can make a difference, it is of vital importance to foster an environment supporting creative ideas. Acquiring all the necessary information in entrepreneurship through the large spectrum of courses offered, our students are bestowed with the unique opportunity to develop their own business ideas. These ideas cover a wide spectrum from development of the campus or services and facilities offered to students to efficient use of alternative energy sources.
The projects developed by our students are evaluated by the relevant academic and administrative divisions of the university, and those deemed useful are put in action. Furthermore in the tenders held for the university’s procurements, student bids are also taken into account.
As of the first year, our university has evaluated several business ideas pitched by its students. As a result a group of students who submitted a business proposal for on campus coffee machines won the tender held with the bid they submitted against other competitors.

Spring Festival

Spring fests are the merriest days of the university life. Leaving a hectic academic year behind, having longer days and warming weather are celebrated by almost all universities through a variety of events. In the first year of Özyegin University, as the organizer of ÖzU’s first Spring Festival the Student Union took the advantage of the small size of the student body and celebrated the Spring Festival with a boat trip on the Bosphorus. The enchanting Bosphorus scenery, a warm evening and a great DJ performance made it an unforgettable evening for ÖzU students.
