Åbo Akademi University offers both undergraduate and graduate studies and extensive research opportunities to some 7000 students on three campuses. Our university is located in Åbo (Turku in Finnish), on the south west coast of Finland and in Vasa (Fi. Vaasa).

Leading research in many areas - Åbo Akademi University has an acknowledged position at the forefront of research in such areas as biosciences,
computer science, democracy, human rights, material sciences, process chemistry and psychology.

Åbo Akademi University has approximately 800 international students from 75 different countries enrolled every year. The majority of these students are international degree students, studying for a degree from Åbo Akademi University. A large group is also the exchange students who come from our partner institutions around the world to study for one or two semesters at Åbo Akademi University.

Services & Facilities

There are many units and persons at Åbo Akademi University to help you with matters concerning your studies, not the least the personnel at the faculty offices and the departments. Under Service for students you find the units that provide help and support of a more general and non-faculty specific character.

The Office for Academic and Student Affairs takes care of matters concerning student administration, such as admission, registration, grants etc.

Åbo Akademi University has a unit which handles matters concerning the national student financial aid.

The Career Service (Arbetsforum) offers services for students and graduates on how to apply for a job, writing CVs etc. The career services are available on both campuses in Åbo and Vasa.

The Computing Centre is the IT service unit. It is the computing centre that i.e provides students usernames and password for the computer environment at the university.

The Learning Centre in Åbo and the Learning Centre Tritonia in Vasa provide services to both students and personnel to support the development of teaching and learning.

The Centre for Language and Communication offers language courses. International students can study both basic courses in Finnish and Swedish during their studies.

Student Life

Starting university studies often means a whole new phase in life. If it is the first time you are living on your own there might be a lot of new details that you have to keep in mind in your everyday life - how to get by financially, keeping healthy, where and how to live etc.

Don't forget that studying does not mean you'll have to give up all your spare time. There are so many activities besides studies that you can engage in!,

The Student Union is there to look out for your best interests as a student. By paying the annual student union fee you are entitled to services and benefits that you can make good use of.

The Student Union membership gives you health care and exercising possibilities that don't ruin you financially. Also, amongst other things, you are entitled to get legal advice if you should need it. Go to the Student Union home page for information about your rights as a student, but also for tips on what to do with your spare time. There are lots of different organizations and clubs to join, for many different kinds of people and interests. They organize parties, entertainment and other activities. You are sure to find something to fit your needs and help you relax and disconnect every once in a while from all that studying!
