In order to receive a Library Card one has to present an identity card and pay in Bozen/Bolzano or in Brixen/Bressanone the annual fee of 10,00 euro.
The library offers a constantly growing collection of print and electronic material. The chosen material is based on the needs of the University’s faculties. The entire book collection can be accessed on the open shelves and a comprehensive online catalogue also assists in searching for a title. The catalogue states where the book or document can be found (Bozen/Bolzano, Brixen/Bressanone or Bruneck/Brunico) as well as listing its exact position on the shelf, which is indicated on the book itself with a label on the spine.
Additionally, the library offers a local lending service as well as an interlibrary loan service, user training and a reference service. The libraries in Bozen/Bolzano and Brixen/Bressanone are equipped with reading areas, group and single study rooms, computers, photocopy machines, printers, CD-burners and scanners.

Language Centre

The Language Centre of the Free University of Bolzano/Bozen is part of the most important service sector of the university. Its aim is to co-ordinate the learning of all the various languages used in this university. This means, for instance, creating the best conditions for language learning.
The Language Centre courses are available for all students enrolled at the university, for those taking part in international exchange programmes, as well as for those working for the university and for guests. One of the services provided by the Language Centre is an advisory service for all students to help them in the various aspects of language learning. The language centre also tests language levels before students begin their university career and during their studies as well.
The Language Centre is particularly important for those studying in their second and third languages. A thorough knowledge of the three official teaching languages in the university: Italian, German and English is absolutely essential for those who wish to participate completely and succsessfully in the activities offered by the university (lectures, seminars etc.) as well as conferences or other academic events.

The ICT organizes the management of the computer network and of all the electronic sequences. It is also responsible for the development of software, which facilitates the workday at the University.
The ICT departments of the University and the Eurac manage the Scientific Network South Tyrol.

Student Life

Accommodation

Where can I live?

There are two possible answers to this question: a room in a student hall of residence or a flat managed by the Autonomous Province of South Tyrol or a private rental agreement with a landlord.
Accommodation in student halls of residence and apartments
If you are going to pre-enrol or you are already a student you can apply for a place in a student hall or apartment in Bozen/Bolzano or Brixen/Bressanone.The provision of this accommodation is undertaken by the Office for the Right to Study, Universities and Research of the Autonomous Province of South Tyrol and is given out on a first-come-first-served basis: each year as from mid-May, you are able to start applying.
If you are interested in getting a place in a hall or apartment, it would be a good idea to apply as soon as possible to the Office so that you have a greater chance of getting something.
The monthly rent for a single room is €260, while a bed in a double room costs €200 a month.

Private rental agreements
In order to help students who are looking for accommodation, there are notice boards in the main buildings of the University that have many adverts for rooms and flats. You can also see what is available by clicking on the following link: accommodationunibz.blogspot.com.
Students who are looking for rooms in Bruneck/Brunico can make enquiries at the Secretariat in the Bruneck/Brunico premises, where information regarding rooms and flats for rent to university studentsis regularly on display.
The University does not act as a mediator between the landlords and its students: if you see an advert that interests you, you have to contact the person yourself and agree on the details such as rent and payment agreements.
The price of rented rooms and apartments can vary depending on the type (e.g. a room in a flat with other students or a one-bedroomed flat for one person) and the size of the accommodation.
Broadly speaking, the monthly rent for one person can vary from €250 to €350.
We would suggest that you contact the Housing Office (Associazione della Proprietà edilizia della Provincia di Bolzano), which will give you information about contracts and rents for university students (tel.: +39 0471 281 551 - 271 135).

CanteensAll students can eat in the university canteens.
The canteen (signposted “mensa”) in Bozen/Bolzano is located in via Sernesi 1, on the ground floor next to the main entrance and the Unibar.
In Brixen/Bressanone you can eat in the canteen which is located in the basement of the main university building in viale Stazione 16.
In Bruneck/Brunico you can eat in the canteen which is located at the KVW, in via Tobl 6/A, about 10 minutes on foot from the main university building.
In Bolzano and Bressanone you can pay with your Student card, while in Brunico you need to buy lunch vouchers at the canteen.
