Description
The Department of Theology and Religion has an outstanding international reputation in the study of all types of religion in the contemporary world, including inter-cultural theology, textual studies, pentecostal and charismatic studies, inter-religious relations, Islamic studies, and Quaker studies. Students from more than 20 countries study here, and most of the academic staff who work here are recognised leaders in their disciplines.
The Department came near the top in recent national Research Assessment Exercises and also in national teaching assessments. Whatever your interests in religion and theology, it is likely that we share them amidst a diverse and friendly staff-student community.

Requirements
Applicants for research degrees should normally have a first- or upper second-class Honours degree in Theology, Religious Studies or a related discipline
Ensure your qualifications meet our entry requirements for research degrees To gain admission to a research degree programme (with the exception of the Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Medicine (MD)) an applicant must comply with the following entry requirements:
* Attainment of an Honours degree (normally a First or Upper Second Class Honours degree or equivalent) in a relevant subject awarded by an approved university, or
* Attainment of an alternative qualification or qualifications and/or evidence of experience judged by the University as indicative of an applicants potential for research and as satisfactory for the purpose of entry to a research degree programme.
In addition:
* Admission and registration for a research degree programme may be conditional on satisfactory completion of preliminary study, which may include assessment.
* In some cases you will also need to have completed a Masters degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject.
