MUSE Multi Sensor DVD Platform is a recently established research project funded by The Danish Council for Strategic Research. A unique combination of well known DVD technology and cantilever-based sensing opens up the possibility for fast, high-throughput and reliable molecular recognition. The aim of MUSE is to develop this concept and to explore possible industrial applications in waste water analysis and human diagnostics. The project includes partners from the Danish companies: Virogates, Grundfos and Unisensor as well as the research institutes Academica Sinica, Taiwan, DTU Informatics and DTU Nanotech.
The aim of this PhD project is the fabrication and characterization of silicon and maybe also polymer-based cantilever-like sensors. The micrometer sized cantilevers are to be used for label-free sensing in waste water and blood plasma.
The PhD project is an initiation of new and high impact effort in realization of cantilever-like sensors to be fully integrated with a DVD-based read-out system.
Sensors that fit the platform of a DVD need to be designed. New microfabrication approaches have to be developed both in the cleanroom at DTU Danchip and in the laboratories of DTU Nanotech. Come and join us in this exciting endeavor!
This sensor development is carried out as a close collaboration between DTU Nanotech and Academica Sinica, Taiwan, who is responsible for the DVD read-out unit. The realized sensors will be tested together with the companies; Grundfos, Virogates and Unisensor.
Please be aware that the employment of a candidate in this position will be dependent on granting of sufficient financing.
Approval and Enrolment
The scholarships for the PhD degree are subject to academic approval, and the candidates will be enrolled in one of the general degree programmes of DTU. For information about the general requirements for enrolment and the general planning of the scholarship studies, please see the DTU PhD Guide.
Salary and appointment terms
The salary and appointment terms are consistent with the current rules for PhD students at DTU. The period of employment is 3 years.
The project and the project team are very multidisciplinary. The candidate should have a background in physics, chemistry or engineering and should demonstrate qualifications or interests in the following:
* Micro- and nanofabrication
* Polymer science
* Microfluidics
* Team oriented research work
