Overview
At Applied Mathematics from Polytechnic University of Catalonia a doctoral thesis is understood to be research work that contains original contributions that are apt to be published in the peer-reviewed communication channels that exist for disseminating quality scientific output.
The programme has an interdisciplinary nature in the sense that research into both the more theoretical aspects of mathematics and research aimed at solving problems related to technology are welcomed. In fact, the programme has as another of its objective to provide advanced mathematical training and education to graduates from other disciplines.
Students at Applied Mathematics from Polytechnic University of Catalonia will have acquired the following competencies, which are needed to carry out quality research:

- An ability to foster scientific, technological, social, artistic and cultural progress in academic and professional contexts within a knowledge-based society.

- Applicants must hold a Spanish bachelor’s degree or equivalent and a Spanish master’s degree or equivalent, provided they have completed a minimum of 300 ECTS credits on the two degrees
- Entrance qualification.
- If your entrance qualification was issued by a foreign institution, a letter from your home university stating that your qualification qualifies you for admission to doctoral studies in that country.
- CV with references to your research and publications.
- Proof of any grants or financial aid obtained.
- Academic transcript from the applicant’s undergraduate and master’s programmes
- Motivation letter and/or personal interview
- Two letters of recommendation from professors/researchers
