The newly established King’s India Institute offers a unique and exciting environment for the in-depth study of India. The Institute is able to draw on academic expertise in a range of disciplines, and supervision may be provided from within the Institute or jointly with other faculty within the College.

Our research has been given a top rating of 5 in the 2001 Research Assessment Exercise. Our activities include research into major issues of development policy and practice including poverty alleviation, regulation and competition policy, development finance, human resource development, information systems, public sector reform, institutional change, economic and social development, impact assessment and sustainable development, resource management, sustainable livelihoods, and the environment.

All our research degrees involve appropriate postgraduate research training modules, which are agreed with the supervisor and the Institute Research Student Coordinator, and which are assessed. In addition, we hold regular research student workshops and seminars, and an annual research student conference.

Research training is a strong feature of our PhD Programme. Postgraduate researchers usually complete an MSc in Social Science Research Methods (or equivalent) prior to registration for their PhD. For ERSC funded students this is mandatory.

This PhD degree provides a structured programme of research training to equip students with the skills required to complete doctoral-level research in International Public Health Policy. The degree is an ideal way for students to make an original contribution to this field by pursuing a long piece of research on a topic of particular interest to them. An MSc/Diploma by Research in International Public Health Policy is also available.
